accidentDo you know if you are eligible for a compensation claim?  If you became a victim of a crime that involved physical injury or had a threat of death or physical injury then you qualify.  Some crimes require on that only emotional injury was sustained. Others eligible for compensation are loved ones or family members who experience economic loss from an injury to, or death of, someone who fell victim to a crime.  There is a program that can help called The Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP) and they include those victims of crimes such as: Drunk driving, Homicide, Domestic violence, Assault, Child abuse, Molestation. Robbery, Sexual assault and Vehicular manslaughter. Besides qualifying here, other criteria include: reporting the crime to the police, sheriff or other law enforcement agency, cooperation with law enforcement during investigation and a victim was not part of the crime, must apply to CalVCP within a year of the crime and applicants/victims must work with CalVCP offering information needed for application review. Emotional injuries resulting in a minor witnessing a violent crime could be eligible for up to $5,000 in mental counseling with CalVCP.
